We often hear that it's important to specialize, and find a particular niche, but there are times when it's a better option to be more of a generalist to gain experience in more than one area, then specialize. And while you are at it, the most important word you must be comfortable with is YES! saying 'YES' will open lots of doors for you and your business, life, and family!

In this episode, we chat about why niching down in the early stages of your business might not be the best decision and how saying yes more often can help you to build your business faster.

Here’s a glance at this episode…

  • [02:53] We often hear the gurus telling us that we need to niche down. "The riches are in the niches". I share my experience and why I think it is better to be more general initially.
  • [12:24] How being a One-Trick-Wonder can be just as damaging to your entrepreneurial journey as being a Jack-Of-All-Trades.
  • [16:06] Why it is super important to try lots of different things as a start-up entrepreneur and how this simple three-letter word can propel you towards your purpose.
  • [22:44] Why knowing who you serve is crucial to your business' success and how you can get clear on who your ideal customer avatar is.

Building a Thriving Tribe with Jason Skeesick: Tips for Success

Armed with an innate passion for helping others and an undying entrepreneurial spirit, Jason Skeesick forged ahead to launch his own business - Clover - and help entrepreneurs build their dreams from the ground up. Little did he know his story was just beginning, with an unexpected twist that would transform the lives of countless entrepreneurs.

"Don't turn the volume up until you have undeniable clarity of what the lyrics are."

My special guest is Jason Skeesick

Jason Skeesick, an entrepreneurial evangelist with a passion for helping businesses establish strong foundations, will be joining Tracy Wilson on the unlocked show. With a background in finance, experience as a commercial banker, and over twelve years of owning his own large CrossFit Gym, Jason brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. He's also served in the army and is a dedicated father. As the host of the Spear and Clover podcast, Jason highlights renegade entrepreneurs who have beaten the odds to follow their passions. Join Tracy and Jason as they discuss the importance of establishing core values and a strong organizational foundation for lasting success.

This is Jason Skeesick's story:

Jason Skeesick always had a knack for helping others and sharing his passions, but it wasn't until he tapped into his innate entrepreneurial spirit that he truly found his calling. A turning point came when he discovered the power of fitness and began coaching at his local gym. The impact he had on others' lives was undeniable, and when the opportunity to coach entrepreneurs presented itself, Jason eagerly accepted. From there, he dove headfirst into coaching within various industries, eventually launching his own business, Clover, to help even more entrepreneurs succeed. With a focus on cultivating strong core values and organizational foundations, Jason is passionate about helping businesses reach their full potential and create lasting change.

Building Your Tribe

In order to achieve long-term success and fulfillment, entrepreneurs must surround themselves with like-minded individuals who support and believe in their vision. By carefully curating a tribe of people who share similar values, goals, and aspirations, entrepreneurs create a positive and nurturing environment that encourages growth and development. Developing and maintaining these relationships requires dedication and effort, but the benefits can be immense when a tribe shares in the challenges and successes together. During the conversation with Jason Skeesick, he emphasized the importance of building a tribe that shares in the entrepreneur's vision and supports their mission. He suggested being selective and deliberate when choosing people to be part of this inner circle, ensuring they share the same guiding values. Jason also pointed out the responsibility entrepreneurs have to assist others on their journey and to cultivate a supportive, collaborative environment that truly embodies the spirit of their shared mission.

The resources mentioned in this episode are:

  • Listen to the Spear and Clover podcast to gain insights from renegade entrepreneurs who have beaten the odds and followed their passions.

00:19:47 - The Importance of Clarity,

Jason advises entrepreneurs to find one person who has one massive problem that they can solve, and to stop thinking from their side of the fence. Instead, they should think from the customer's side and focus on the benefits they can provide, rather than their features.

00:23:39 - Identifying Massive Problems,

Jason explains that the best massive problems are bleeding neck problems, such as losing money, deteriorating health, or falling relationships. Jason stresses the importance of sharing your vision with others while being able to set aside your ego and listen to feedback. He also talks about his own struggles in developing his business and how he had to step outside his comfort zone to listen to others.

00:42:30 - Slowing Down and Finding Quiet Time,

Jason talks about the importance of slowing down and finding quiet time to recharge and recalibrate your ideas. He shares his experience of going to a float tank and chanting to himself to find clarity for his business.
